Water flow details: After Hurricane Florence we have received a major precipitation in the entire Cape Fear basin. Jordan Lake, that’s formed by dammed Haw river, accumulated a LOT of this water, saving us from devastating floods. The floods that we have experienced would have been way worse without the Jordan Lake. The Lower Haw River that flows out of the Jordan Lake directly feeds the Cape Fear River. Army Corps of Engineers who operate the dam are releasing all the excess water to bring the lake back down to the target level. It will keep the Cape Fear River at higher level for 2-3 weeks.
9/22/2018 Sunday: The river has dropped fast! It will go up on Monday (long story later). We are doing River Tubing, Leisure Paddle, Easy Float, and 10 Mile Challenge today! Hope to see you on the water, Cheers!

6/22/2017 Short Story: River will be high until Friday 6/30. We are offering only Whitewater Kayaking, Scenic Rafting, and possibly Easy Float until the river comes down to normal level. We are still offering take away rentals if you want to paddle on another body of water. Our boat ramp will be closed to personal recreational vessels (including tubes!).

Long Story: After the recent tropical storm, we have received major precipitation in the upper Cape Fear basin. Jordan Lake, that’s formed by dammed Haw river, accumulated a lot of this water, saving us from the floods below. Lower Haw River that comes out of Jordan Lake directly feeds the Cape Fear. Army Corps of Engineers who operate the dam will be releasing all the excess water to bring the lake back down to the target level, which in turn will keep the Cape Fear River at higher level. According to the projections we should see lower water level acceptable for all recreational trips starting Saturday 7/1. Until then, we’ll be offering only Whitewater Kayaking, Scenic Rafting, and possibly Easy Float depending on more precise conditions each day.
6/21/2017 Due to recent rains the river conditions will be changing. We are very likely to see high water levels. Depending on the river conditions we might postpone some or all recreational trips (River Tubing, Leisure Paddle, Easy Float, 10 Mile Challenge, Epic Overnight). We will be offering Whitewater Kayaking and Scenic Rafting, water levels permitting. Please check back right here for the most up to date status.

Stay safe and happy paddling!

5/9/2017 Great news! We are just off the phone with Army Corps of Engineers who operate Jordan Lake Dam that feeds the Cape Fear River and water level is looking very promising for this weekend. We anticipate to be offering all of our regular recreational trips, including the river tubing. We hope to see you on the water!
5/8/2017 The release from the lake has finally been reduced some, although the river is still running at higher levels. Monday and Tuesday we anticipate to offer Easy Float, Whitewater Kayaking and possibly Rafting. Later in the week the river will come down even further, approaching more normal levels. We hope to offer all of our regular recreational trips this weekend, including river tubing.
4/26/2017 Short version: We are offering whitewater kayaking or scenic rafting only, at least until early May when water levels come back down after the heavy rains in late April.
Long version: We have received extreme levels of water precipitation in the entire Cape Fear River basin from April 24-25th, causing flooding in many areas. Jordan Lake, a man made lake that feeds the Cape Fear River, is designed for 2 main purposes: water supply and flood control. Jordan Lake accumulated a lot of the storm water, causing it to rise over 11ft (that’s a bunch!!). Now the Army Corps of Engineers who control the Jordan Lake Dam will be releasing that water in to the Cape Fear River. It will most likely take days and days to bring the lake back down to its target level. Only then we’ll see the reduced outflow from Jordan Lake, which will in turn create favorable conditions for all of our regular paddling and tubing trips here in Lillington. Please stay tuned or give us a call with any questions. At currently higher water levels you can experience the thrill of whitewater kayaking or enjoy a relaxing ride on a whitewater raft (both trips are guided). Contact us for details or make your reservations online. Cheers!

10/26/2016 The river conditions are looking great for this weekend, so is the weather! Join us for the closing weekend of the 2016 season and enjoy leaf changing scenery from the river!
10/24/2016 Jordan Lake, which directly feeds the Cape Fear River, had gone up by 11ft after Hurricane Matthew. After water levels from the natural run off from the hurricane have been reduced below flood stages throughout the Cape Fear basin, the US Army Corps of Engineers started the water release from Jordan Lake to reduce the lake volume down to its target level. That’s what has been keeping the river level up. Now we are approaching the lake’s target level and the outflow will be drastically reduced. Which, in turn, means we are very likely to have a more normal river level by this weekend; our last weekend of 2016 season! We’ll keep you posted on whether we’ll be open, so stay tuned!!
10/20/2016 The river is running at 8.3ft by Lillington’s gauge. We will be offering Whitewater Kayaking and Scenic Rafting only this weekend! Both are guided trips and depart at scheduled times, reservations required! We hope to see you on the water for some action.
10/15/2016 The river is running at 4.5ft by Lillington’s gauge. At this level Easy Float (canoes or any kayaks) or 10 Mile Challenge (only sit-on-top single kayaks) is a good choice! We’ll be open Saturday 9-5pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. Hope to see you on the river!
10/13/2016 We will be open this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Water level will be higher than summer low, but based on the projections from US Army Corps of Engineers, it should be acceptable for Easy Float, 10 Mile Challenge, and Epic Overnight. Likely the current will be too strong for Leisure Paddle. Hope to see you on the river!
10/12/2016 We are closely monitoring river conditions, that are directly impacted by the release from Jordan Lake. US Army Corps of Engineers are waiting to increase the water release from the lake until storm water passes in lower basin. Based on that, there is a good chance conditions in Lillington will be acceptable to do some paddling this weekend. Please check back closer to this weekend for more details.
10/11/2016 I hope everyone is safe with running water and electricity! We will remain closed until further notice due to dangerous river conditions. We strongly recommend to postpone any river activities for private boaters also! We will reopen for weekend operations as soon as conditions improve! Any questions please call us 919-495-5555.

If you want to reschedule an already booked trip for a warmer day just give us a call or email. See you on the river soon!
9/2/2016 Update 8:30am: We will be closed Friday due to the tropical storm.
We are closely monitoring the weather and river conditions. There is a great possibility of the river level going up if we receive as much rain as suggested by the forecast. If it goes beyond what we consider the safe level, we’ll have to postpone river activities. This might affect Saturday, Sunday, and Monday trips, so please check back here for the most up to date status. We’ll keep you posted throughout the day as the storm develops.
9/1/2016 We are closely monitoring the tropical storm off the coast of NC. If the storm's path remains as forecast, not only it will rain Friday and Saturday, the storm will also have drastic effects on the river water level. The higher water level might remain for extended period of time if the entire basin receives as much rain as predicted. If the river raises beyond what we consider a safe level we'll have to make cancellations to some or all river trips. 3/29/2016 HIGH WATER STORY: The river has come up by about 5ft from the normal level after the rain on Sunday. At this level the water is very swift with numerous dangers such as strainers; therefore, we don’t operate for safety reasons. Also the water is still rather cold in mid 50s. Capsizing, which is always possible even on flat water, would be catastrophic in these conditions. We have more rain in the forecast on Thursday and Friday – likely the river will remain high for some time. We will be running whitewater raft as soon as we find the conditions appropriate. Please contact us with any questions.
3/28/2016 We are open Wed - Fri 10-4pm; Sat & Sun 9am-5pm. Come see us for good times on the river!
3/24/2016 Happy Easter everybody! The weather forecast keeps changing, Saturday being the best bet for a great paddle. We are open Friday 10-4pm, Saturday and Sunday 9-5pm. Come on down to check out the “blooming” river with tons of wildlife. See you out there!

3/20/2016 We will be closed today, Sunday 3/20 due to the inclement weather. Cold air temperature (high of 48) and cold water (in 50s) makes it for dangerous paddling conditions with high chance of hyperthermia in case of capsizing. We plan to resume our normal operations on Wednesday 3/23 at 10am.
3/19/2016 We open at 9am today, on Saturday. But we are likely to close early due to inclement weather. We will keep you posted right here. Be sure to give us a call before coming out.

4/21/2015 The Upper Cape Fear River is regulated by Jordan Lake dam. The rain received on Sunday and Monday caused the lake to rise considerably (by nearly 3ft- it takes lotta water to fill up a lake!). This means the dam will be "wide" open for several days in order to get the lake levels down. It will keep the river at dangerous levels for any recreational activities... Please check the water gages @ USGS sites for more info and to satisfy your curiousity, or just give us a call. We are looking forward to lower water levels just like you are! Until then.... take care! And we’ll be posting updates here if anything changes.

We are just as disappointed as y'all are! All that means is we are just going to have to postpone our Grand Opening until Saturday 3/21. We are taking reservations, so hit us up!!

5/15/2014 We have heard from a higher river authority that river levels may rise with this bout of recent rainy weather. We are on the watch and will post updates right here if anything changes regarding this weekend's trip availability. Cheers!

4/18/2014 Hi y'all! The river's been high all week with more rain anticipated tonight AND tomorrow. That being said, we're only going to run the 1 hour Wildlife Rd Float this whole weekend. 3/22/2014 Hi all! Well, spring really let us have it with all the rain recently. As a result, the river is too high for us to safely allow any trips to proceed this Saturday and Sunday. Check back for next weekend!
3/21/2014 Howdy! We're still watching the river for this weekend. She's still going down, but we're not sure it will be down to safe levels by tomorrow. We are currently taking "tentative reservations" for the Wildlife Rd Float, which will require us to follow up with you on Saturday morning. Give us a call or an email with reservation requests or questions :-)
3/17/2014 Baby, it's cold outside! With information we've received from the Army Corp of Engineers (controllers of Jordan Lake dam releases), and the forecasted rain we're to receive in the next few days, we may only be able to offer our Wildlife Rd Float this upcoming weekend. We'll be watching all contributing factors and posting updates as needed, right here :-) Think warm thoughts!!
3/14/2014 We will be open Saturday, 9-5 and Sunday, 10-5. Due to river conditions, we will only be offering the 1 Hour Wildlife Road Float. Please contact us with any questions. Thanks!!
3/13/2014 Well, spring has definitely started to show and we are grateful! The river is still very high and not anticipated to go down very much for a favorable opening weekend :-( With the way things look right now, if we are able to open, the only trip we'll safely be able to offer is the 1 hour Wildlife Rd Float. Keep checking back or give us a shout!
3/8/2014 The river is at flood stage and extreme caution should be exercised if you find yourself near it. Weather and river conditions permitting, we anticipate our season opening to be Saturday, March 15th! Keep checking back for updates right here on our website or on Facebook.

9/2/2013 Well, we've made it through summer! Just because we are looking forward to leaves changing and cooler temps does not mean that paddling season is over :-) Fall is, in our opinion, the best time to get out in a canoe or kayak. See you on the water!
9/1/2013 Yes! We are open on Labor Day - Monday, September 2nd! Give us a call or email to check availability on what we've got going on tomorrow. See you at the river!

8/25/2013 Hi everyone! The river is still high, but we've got options to get you out on the river today!
8/24/2013 Hey y'all! River is still high, so the only trip we will be able to offer today (Saturday, August 24th) will be the 1 hour Wildlife Float. Thanks!!
8/23/2013 Due to the very high river level we are pending reservations till Saturday morning to decide if the river is safe for paddling. Feel free to give us a call with any questions or updated river conditions. Thanks!
8/23/2013 Wow. Sorry folks, but our trips will be limited to the 1 hour Wildlife Float tomorrow. Maybe Sunday will offer a kinder river, but it's still too early to tell. Keep checking back, as we will be updating as we see changes (if any).
8/21/2013 As of Wednesday, August 21st, the river is too high for us to safely allow people out on the river. Please call us with questions. We expect to be open this weekend and will be updating frequently. Thanks!
8/19/2013 Cross them fingers the river doesn't rise too much by this weekend! Contact us now to set up your reservation. We are already starting to get booked for September, so keep that in mind and don't be left out when the cool autumn temps start arriving!
8/17/2013 We're as disappointed as y'all are with this weekend's dismally depressing end of summer weather! Praying for sunshine next weekend!
8/13/2013 Our new river tubing excursion sets off from our rental shack in Lillington and offers 2 extremely lazy miles of unspoiled rolling forests and wildlife. Reservations are required for this new and exciting addition to Cape Fear River Adventures!
8/9/2013 Howdy, river runners! We open shop at 9 Saturday morning and close at 7pm- same hours for Sunday. It's looking to be a busy weekend, so be sure to make your reservation!
8/5/2013 Hi, friends! We are here and we are excited about this weekend :-) Make your reservations today!
8/3/2013 Ok, everyone! Here's the deal. The river is still pretty high (4.7 as of 6pm Saturday evening), so we are only able to offer 2 trips as of now: the 1 hour Wildlife Float or the Leisure Paddle. Please check out our Trips Page or give us a call if you have any questions :-) Sorry about the limited trip availability!!
8/2/2013 The river has been spiking up all of Friday. Depending on whether it peaks Friday night and the rate at which it starts to go back down will be the determining factor on whether we can open Saturday. Cross all those fingers AND toes, y'all :-) We'd hate to squander a beautiful Saturday because the river won't cooperate!
8/1/2013 Well, hello! We're looking forward to the weekend. We are still unable to offer the Wildlife Float due to inaccessible boat ramp at the end of the trip- sorry!
7/30/2013 Hi everyone! The river is currently running higher than we'd like, but we're still looking forward to a great weekend! Call with reservation requests and/or questions :-)
7/27/2013 The river level is looking good. So is the forecast. See you on the water!

7/22/2013 Here's hoping the river stays a nice level. Please give at least 24 hour notice for reservations. Thank you!!
7/20/2013 My goodness! The river's looking mighty good today! Come on down and step out for a refreshing canoe or kayak excursion! Reservations are STRONGLY recommended.
7/19/2013 Things are looking up! The river is slowly going down and we are optimistic about tomorrow's prospects :-) Contact us to set up a reservation because it's already looking to be busy.
7/16/2013 At this time, we are anticipating to be open this weekend. If the river continues to drop the way it currently is, we should be in business! Just keep in mind circumstances ARE subject to change, depending on Mother Nature :-) Contact us to make your reservation anyway!
7/16/2013 We are still watching the river, which may even be back down to safe levels by this weekend. Please keep checking back; still too early to make a call! But there's hope! Take the leap of faith and make your weekend reservation in hopes of a safer river :-)
7/15/2013 We are watching the river for next weekend. Still too early to make a call, but please keep checking back! In the meantime, check us out on Facebook and Google+!
7/13/2013 Looks like another weekend we'll have to remain closed due to unsafe river conditions :-( Try us again next weekend! In the meantime, check out the story our local NBC station did on us! Visit our Facebook page for the link.
7/9/2013 It's not looking like the river will be at safe levels by this weekend... Give us a call if you'd like to try the Rhodes Pond Paddle! There is no minimum boat number, as stated in our Trips description-- heck yeah! Call us for details or to set up a reservation.
7/5/2013 We're wishing on a star that the river goes down to safe levels by next weekend... Until then, grab a few friends and try the Rhodes Pond Paddle... Give us a ring with questions!
7/3/2013 Bad news: Due to an extremely high river we will not be open for the remainder of the week. Please try us again for Saturday July 13th and Sunday the 14th.
7/1/2013 Unless there's a Charlie Brown Christmas Miracle, we're not going to be open for the Fourth of July long weekend. The river is tremendously high and we can't allow folks safely out on it. If you're interested in a Rhodes Pond paddle, give us a call!!
6/29/2013 Well, shucks, y'all! The river gauge is broken, but we can still see the river is very high... This has been confirmed by Raven Rock State Park as well: the river's about 6.5-7 feet high. Due to these unfortunate circumstances, we will be closed for the rest of this weekend :-(
6/28/2013 Don't let the thunderstorms forecasted for this weekend scare you! If we even get any rain, it lasts for only 20 or so minutes and then it's done :-) Please come down this weekend! It's always beautiful over here.
6/25/2013 Get on out to the river this weekend. Hurry and make your reservation!
6/23/2013 We've got availability today :-) Please call to reserve a canoe or kayak!

6/14/2013 Hi friends! The river has been fluctuating between 6 and 7.5 feet, which is way too high for us to safely allow people out on the river :-( We've watching everything closely! We're still taking reservations for June 22nd thru the 23rd!
6/10/2013 The river will not be low enough to allow folks out on it by this weekend, we're afraid... In that case, we are only able to offer the Rhodes Pond Adventure. Check out the trip description on our Trips page and contact us to set up a reservation!
6/9/2013 Hi everyone! We hope the river goes down by next weekend... Cross your fingers!
6/8/2013 We are not allowing folks out on the Cape Fear River today or tomorrow due to high water. If you'd like to arrange a trip to Rhodes Pond, we are scheduling a trip out there at 10am on Sunday. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS AWESOME OUTING! Call or email with questions. Thanks!!
6/8/2013 Howdy, river lovers! We will be closed today and tomorrow thanks to Tropical Storm Andrea's torrential rains. The river is super-crazy high, and the cfs is nothing to joke about either!!
6/7/2013 Unfortunately due to the storm and a rising river, we won't be open tomorrow, Saturday, June the 8th. Check back with us on Sunday to see if the river goes down any!!
6/6/2013 WEATHER ALERT- Concerns about the impending rain and and it's impact on the river levels for this weekend have us watching everything closely. Contact us if you have questions.
6/5/2013 Call or email to reserve your kayak or canoe for this weekend!
