Scenic Rafting

Scenic Rafting

Scenic Rafting - guided tour with nature at its finest!

Enjoy several miles of calm water in a secluded environment before entering the biggest rock garden of the entire Cape Fear River. Go through some Class II, II+ and possible III rapids (depends on the water level) in the second part of the trip. Get a glimpse of a soaring Bald Eagle or Great Blue Heron as you paddle on remote section of the Cape Fear. Choose if you want to participate as a paddler or you can just ride along and let the guide do all the work.

Please note: Guided Rafting on the Cape Fear River is possible only at particular water levels, making it only occasional service that we offer. Typically, we see appropriate water levels in spring; however, sometimes the water will be high enough during other seasons. We announce when we are running rafts on social media and right here on our home page. We are happy to put you on a waiting list and contact you as soon as the river conditions are acceptable. Otherwise, this is a first come first serve option based on the river conditions that day.

Trip Preparation

What to wear

Dress for the weather and try to layer your clothing. Depending on the water temperature you will be required to wear a wetsuit. You can use your own or rent one of ours. Typically, we require for participants to wear wetsuits in colder months from October to May. Water temperatures must be above 60 degrees in order to NOT wear a wetsuit. Anticipate getting wet, and wear clothing that dries fast. Keep in mind that cotton takes longer to dry out than synthetic fiber clothing (i.e.: polyester, nylon, polypropylene). Even on a colder sunny day proper sun protection is a must. Some folks choose to wear long sleeve clothing, while others choose sunscreen. If you have paddling booties or water shoes, that’s wonderful! We offer rental water shoes as an alternative. You can wear old gym shoes, strap-on outdoor activity sandals like Keen, Chaco, or Teva. No flip-flops. We will provide you with a life vest, helmet, optional cold weather gear (wetsuit, splash jacket, splash pants), and optional water shoes.

Wetsuit is an inner layer piece of clothing made out of very tight neoprene. It might take a little "getting used to", but it is one of the best ways to keep you warm if you happen to find yourself submerged in cold water.
Splash jacket is made out of light weight water and wind resistant material with straps on sleeves, neck and waist to minimize exposure to water splashing.
Splash pants are made out of light weight water and wind resistant material with straps on the bottom to minimize exposure to water splashing.

Bring a change of clothes to change into after your trip!

The Trip Day

Where to go

Arrive at our main office located at:

100 South Main St.
Lillington, NC 27546

If using GPS:
- Include South in the street name
- Make sure you are being directed to Lillington, not Buies Creek!

We are located next door to Howard's Barbeque, right by the river

When to arrive

Please arrive at the time you scheduled your trip. For example, if you schedule your trip at 10am, that's the time you need to arrive at our office. You can expect to be on the water within 30 minutes or less after we do all the necessary steps prior to your outing (see below).

Liability forms

Every participant must fill out a Liability waiver form prior to their trip. Participants 18 years and older have to fill out an individual form, while minors (17 and under) must be included on parent or guardian form in the designated section. You will need your Booking ID before you can complete this form.

Payments

If you are making your reservation online, then you will prepay online and there is nothing else to do upon arrival in that regard. If you haven't made a reservation online (that we strongly suggest) then we will collect your payment at that time either via credit or debit card or cash.

Trip Outfitting

Use this time to get your necessary items you are bringing along on the trip, including putting on sunscreen, getting your water and snacks, locking up cars, etc. Out office sells bottled water, sunscreen and other items for your convenience! During that time we will get your boats, paddles, life jackets and any other supplies ready for your trip.

Trip Briefing

Every person has to be briefed about their trip. We'll talk to you about general river rules, safety, and about your particular trip to ensure you know what to expect while on the river.

Out to the water

At this point you will walk down to the water which is about 150 yards away from our office. Typically, we will have boats ready for you by the water. We will help you load any of your accessories and help you launch. From here you are on your own to enjoy beautiful scenery, and have an amazing time!
