Kayaking Fayetteville, NC

When it comes to experiencing kayaking, Fayetteville, NC residents are in luck! They’re just a short drive from all the fun here at Cape Fear River Adventures!
We offer all kinds of kayaking options, from paddling around by yourself in gentle water for a few hours to braving the rapids with a guide at your side. We even offer classes, overnight expeditions, and more. So, pick your thrill!
No matter what experience you choose, though, we recommend you follow a few simple tips to maximize your enjoyment.

Dress the Part

If you live in Fayetteville, NC, kayaking probably isn’t something you get to do every day. Thus, you might be a bit confused about what to expect and even what to wear.
The biggest tip is to dress for the weather! If it’s cold outside, you’ll probably want to bring or rent a wetsuit and/or a splash jacket from us. In warmer weather, a bathing suit and sunscreen should be just fine.
Do, however, expect to get wet. Whether you end up falling into the water or not (it does happen!), you will likely get quite damp. For this reason, it’s a good idea to bring along an extra set of clothes.
Also, consider a hat to protect from the sun and paddling booties or water shoes. Flip-flops are a no-go, though strap-on sandals are suitable.
When you dress the part, your kayaking experience should be safer and more comfortable all around.

Be Smart

While some of our river kayaking options are suitable for true beginners, others do require certain training or abilities.
And, even if you’re doing true “beginner stuff,” we highly recommend signing up for one of our kayaking classes. These simple and affordable classes can really help you to have a better idea of what you’re doing, how to properly maneuver your kayak, and will make you feel more confident and prepared out on the water.
If you’re truly a beginner, you can start with our Kayaking 101 course. And, if you love it, we offer several more classes, with each one more advanced and exhilarating than the last!

Start Slow

Sometimes, beginner kayakers want to jump in their kayaks and speed through their session. And, while going fast can sometimes be fun, don’t start off that way, especially if you’re new to the activity.
Give yourself some time to get your bearings. Figure out how you prefer to position yourself within the kayak and what paddling style you prefer. Take some time to enjoy what you’re doing and to take in the views too.
You can definitely add in some speedy fun later on, but at least at first, go slow until you feel more comfortable and sure of yourself.
